Policy
SelfDesign Learning Community knows that learning occurs in all aspects of life, that it is important to engage in experiences in the community, and recognizes the benefits of learner field trips.
Field trips are selected, planned, organized, and conducted with the following principles clearly identified:
- the learning goals
- the safety, inclusion and security of all participants, contractors on the field trip
- The management of risk for all activities
- the protection of learners, contractors, volunteers, and the School Authority
Administrative Procedures
The Principal or delegate (Vice Principal) must ensure that all school field trips are appropriately planned, authorized, organized, and supervised. Specific procedures and policies for all aspects of field trips and camps are outlined in the SDLC Handbook of Camp Procedures and Policies, which is reviewed prior to each camp, by each supervising contractor. The procedures include notification of Safe Schools Coordinator (Principal) and provisions for medical emergencies. In the event of a pandemic, provisions in SelfDesign’s Pandemic Response Policy will take precedence over those in this policy.
All field trip and camp documentation related to safety, medical, venue, planning, communication, and written informed consent is to be retained on file at the school, as required.
The documentation includes but is not limited to:
- SelfDesign Field Trip Release Form
