SelfDesign Educator Assistant

Overview

This document defines and distinguishes the roles of the certified educator and the educator assistant.

Terms

Certified Teacher: 

This is an Educator that is certified by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch to teach the course.

They are directly responsible to: plan, direct, assess and report on student learning.

Note: A certified teacher can be classified as an EA in cases where they are teaching outside of their certified subject and must fulfill all requirements of an EA when acting in that role. 

Educator Assistant: 

The Educator Assistant supports the Educator in working one on one with the learner and/or in supporting the delivery of the course. The Educator Assistant supports the teacher and does not, in any way, replace the responsibility of the Educator.

Policy

When an Educator is working with an Educator Assistant (EA) the following communication will  take place:

  1. The provision of an Educator Assistant will be identified along with the Educator in all SD systems;
  2. The Educator and the Educator Assistant will discuss the course approach;
  3. The Educator Assistant will work with and provide input to the Educator at assessment times; and
  4. The Educator will submit the assessment and final grades.
