Teacher and Principal Evaluation

Policy

SDLF grants educator contracts that are based on the following standards.  Evaluation of teacher performance is done with respect to the impact on student learning and the meeting of the criteria outlined in the teacher contract.

  • The Consultant shall endeavour to uphold to the best of his or her professional capacity the standards of the teaching profession in British Columbia as detailed by the Teacher Regulation Branch of the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
  • The Consultant shall agree to meet to the best of his or her professional capacity the contents of this agreement, the Standards for Delivery of K-12 Independent School Online Learning in British Columbia 2021-22 as provided in Schedule A of the contract between SelfDesign Learning Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Child Care, where these standards apply to the professional activities of certified teachers.
  • Teachers are evaluated on an ongoing basis by the use of the Self & Support Check system keyed to the requirements in their educator contract.  These are reviewed regularly and their work is spot checked.
  • Teachers have on-going formative review of their work.

Evaluation Process of Teachers

  • Annual Self and Support Checks – self reflections, peer/team lead reflections formatively and summatively including review of work.
  • When necessary, individual meetings.

Principal Evaluation Policy

The Board of Directors of the SelfDesign Learning Foundation shall establish performance criteria for the Principal of SelfDesign Learning Community, and shall review these criteria on an annual basis.

Evaluation Process of Principal

The Board of Directors of the SelfDesign Learning Foundation shall establish performance criteria for the Principal of SelfDesign Learning Community, and shall review these criteria on an annual basis with the Principal in a joint interview between the Board Chair, other board members as designated, and the Principal, within two months of the end of the contract year. The Principal will be invited to submit a self-reflection on the work of the year as a basis for the interview.
