Policy Statement

SelfDesign Learning Foundation (SDLF) is committed to ensuring any person providing services to SDLF does not derive any personal profit or gain, directly or indirectly, beyond that which is contained in the scope of their services (e.g. the terms of their contract) by reason of their participation with the SDLF.

Definitions

Conflict of Interest – any situation in which personal, business, or financial interests may affect, or may be perceived to affect, the person’s objectivity, judgment, or ability to provide services to SDLF and to act in the best interests of SDLF and its learners.

For example, a conflict of interest exists when:

  • An individual uses position, authority, or privileged information to obtain an improper benefit, directly or indirectly
  • An individual uses position, authority, or privileged information to obtain an improper benefit for a friend, relative, or associate
  • An individual making recommendations or decisions on behalf of SelfDesign has competing priorities or influence

Policy

SelfDesign Learning Foundation will require people providing services to:

  • Arrange their affairs, in public and private, to prevent any real, perceived, or potential conflict of interest
  • Disclose bias or possibility of bias as a result of a conflict of interest

Protocol

If the person providing services is or may be in a situation that does or could create a conflict of interest, they must let SDLF know right away by contacting their Foundation Contact or hr@selfdesign.org, including any and all relevant details.

The CEO or delegate will assess the situation in collaboration with the person identifying the conflict of interest to determine if and how the conflict can be resolved.

If the conflict cannot be resolved, it may not be possible for the individual to continue providing services to SDLF.
