Policy Statement
SelfDesign Learning Foundation (SDLF) commits to fully complying with policies of the Ministry of Education and Childcare and the BC Criminal Records Review Act to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our learners, specifically children and vulnerable persons, served by our organization.
This policy outlines the requirements for valid criminal record checks for individuals working or volunteering with SelfDesign Learning Foundation.
Policy
SelfDesign Learning Foundation ensures that any individual with access to our learners, or their personal information, has a valid Criminal Record Check (CRC) through the Criminal Records Review Program. In compliance with the Criminal Records Review Act, only CRCs issued through the Criminal Records Review Program will be accepted by SDLF. Individuals without a valid CRC will not be allowed to provide services or access learner information.
Protocol
Criminal Record Checks must be renewed every five years, in accordance with the Criminal Records Review Act.
All contractors, volunteers, support providers and board members are responsible for their CRC application and payment.
Any organization contracted by the SelfDesign Learning Foundation is required to have valid CRCs for their employees, contractors or subcontractors.
Subsequent to SDLF receiving their CRC results, all contractors, volunteers, support providers and board members are required to promptly notify SDLF if they have been charged with or convicted of a relevant offence or specified offence, as defined in the Criminal Records Review Act, and provide SDLF with a new authorization for a criminal record check.
Record Handling and Confidentiality
- All notices of CRC results are handled in compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act and retained securely for a minimum of one year, or as required under school policy and provincial law.
- Access to the CRC results is restricted to authorized SelfDesign Learning Foundation personnel only on a need to know basis.
- SelfDesign Learning Foundation cannot provide a personal copy of the CRC results to the individual.
