Policy Statement
SelfDesign Learning Foundation (SDLF) is committed to delivering engaging, inclusive, and meaningful virtual learning experiences for K–12 learners through HomeLearners Network (HLN). HLN Guides play a central role in ensuring that all programming reflects educational integrity and supports learner engagement and well-being.
HLN Guides are certified educators contracted by SelfDesign Learning Foundation and are responsible for the design and facilitation of HLN activities that align with provincial curricular competencies.
Definitions
HLN Guide: The facilitator of an HLN activity. Guides are provincially certified educators and contractors of SelfDesign Learning Foundation. Guides are responsible for the design, educational integrity, facilitation, and oversight of live, online, virtual learning experiences.
Policy
SelfDesign Learning Foundation (SDLF) will deliver engaging, inclusive, and meaningful virtual learning experiences for K–12 learners through HomeLearners Network (HLN). HLN Guides play a central role in ensuring that all programming reflects educational integrity and supports learner engagement and well-being.
HLN Guides are certified educators contracted by SelfDesign Learning Foundation and are responsible for the design and facilitation of HLN activities that align with provincial curricular competencies.
Protocol
HLN Guides will:
- Serve as the primary facilitator and educational lead for HLN activities.
- Design and/or support the development of activities that are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with provincial curricular competencies, developmental needs and interests of K–12 learners.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive virtual learning environment.
- Support learner engagement and well-being through responsive and adaptive facilitation.
- Model, guide, and encourage ethical and safe behaviour related to technology use.
- Prepare and deliver activity materials, resources, and facilitation plans in alignment with HLN standards
- Collaborate with HLN contractors, including Lead Guides, to address learner and programming needs.
- Reflect on learner engagement and participation to inform continuous improvement of activities and offerings.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions with learners, families, Guests, Partners, and colleagues.
- Support accessibility and inclusion by adapting activities to meet diverse learner needs.
- Complete required documentation and administrative responsibilities related to their contract.
- Contribute to a balanced and responsive program by aligning activity offerings with identified subject areas, learner needs, and program priorities.
Additional Responsibilities When Working with Guests or Partners
When collaborating with a Guest or Partner, HLN Guides will:
- Act as the primary point of connection between HLN and the Guest or Partner before, during, and after the activity.
- Ensure activity plans and facilitation align with HLN program expectations and SDLF standards.
- Support the structure, pacing, and flow of the activity to ensure a positive learner experience (maintain safety, inclusion, and developmental appropriateness).
