SelfDesign Learning Foundation will support a safe, respectful and appropriate work environment by outlining the responsibilities of the contractor, support provider (specifically SEAs), or volunteer to identify and manage hazards, maintain a suitable workspace, and follow applicable health and safety requirements while doing work for SDLF.

Protocol

Individual Responsibilities

All contractors, support providers (specifically Support Education Assistants [SEAs]), and volunteers must:

  1. Maintain a secure workspace that is safe, suitable for the work being performed, and free from recognized hazards that could reasonably result in injury or illness.
  2. Ensure their workstation is set up to support safe posture, adequate lighting, and appropriate use of equipment, including computers, chairs, work surfaces, cords, and other tools required to perform their duties.
  3. Take reasonable steps to maintain personal safety and security when working alone, working remotely, or attending a learner’s home.
  4. Before providing services in a learner’s home, consider whether the environment appears safe and appropriate for the planned activity. If a hazard or concern is identified, the contractor/support provider must take steps to address the concern where possible and notify SDLF as required.
  5. Adhere to SDLF’s health and safety policies, procedures, orientations, and reporting requirements.
  6. Promptly report work-related injuries, illnesses, incidents, hazards, or safety concerns that occur while performing contract services, including those that occur in their office, in a learner’s home, or in the community.
