Policy Statement
SelfDesign Learning Foundation (SDLF) is committed to taking reasonable steps to protect the health and safety of contractors, support providers or volunteers who are working remotely, alone, or in isolation while performing services for SDLF.
Definitions
Remote Workplace – is a location where emergency medical services may not be able to arrive within 30 minutes under normal road and working conditions.
Working Alone or in Isolation – working in circumstances where assistance would not be readily available if an injury, illness, emergency, or personal safety concern occurred.
Policy
SelfDesign Learning Foundation will take reasonable steps to protect the health and safety of contractors, specific support providers (Support Education Assistants [SEAs]), or volunteers when they are working remotely, working alone, or working in isolation while doing work for SDLF. This includes assessing the work location, identifying potential hazards, confirming how emergency assistance would be obtained, and maintaining an appropriate check-in plan.
Protocol
Where required, contractors, support providers (SEAs only), or volunteers must complete a Working Alone/Remote Work Plan. The plan must identify the check-in schedule, the communication method, the person responsible for checking in, the steps to follow if the contractor, SEA, or volunteer cannot be contacted, and how emergency assistance will be requested if needed.
